A £6.6m healthcare facility for Alfreton has now been completed, following 14 months of building work. The new medical centre was developed by Southern Derbyshire Local Improvement Finance Trust Company (LIFTCo) for Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust (PCT) under a public private partnership agreement.

The state-of-the-art centre is due to open to the public in March and will house a range of primary health and social care services, all under one roof.

Dr Skidmore and Partners GP practice will be moving from Limes Avenue and all primary care services currently running from Alfreton Clinic on Grange Street will be relocating there over the coming weeks. These include community nursing, health visitors, chiropody, podiatry, community clinics and phlebotomy.

Social services teams currently based at 'The Firs' in the town will also be housed in the new premises, along with the community learning disability team and a pharmacy.

Russell Rigby, chair of Southern Derbyshire LIFT Company says: "We are very proud of this state-of-the-art building and are delighted to hand over the keys to the PCT. It creates a welcoming environment for patients which will benefit the residents of Alfreton for generations to come, whilst dramatically improving the working environment for staff."

Simon Griffiths, acting director of provider development at Derbyshire County PCT, added: "This great new building provides the opportunity for the range of health and social care services to work together in a fit for purpose building that is specifically designed to tackle issues such as infection control and disabled access."
