A £5.5m healthcare facility for the Alvaston area of Derby has now been completed, following 16 months of building work.
The state-of-the-art centre is due to open to the public next month and will house a range of primary care and community based health services all under one roof. The centre will improve local access to health care and provide an enhanced range of modern and integrated health services.
The centre will provide practice based medical services from the Meadowfields’ branch surgery, which will be relocating in July into the new facility from its current premises on Upper Moor Road. In addition, general health clinic services, currently offered from the Boulton Clinic, will be moving from its current base on Wyndham Street into the new centre. These services include child health screening, chiropody, vision screening and blood taking services.
The facility also has provision for therapy services, dental services and hospital outpatient clinics and there is a minor surgery suite where minor surgical procedures can be performed.
A new pharmacy will also be moving into the new facility.
Steve Maleham, general manager of Southern Derbyshire LIFT Company says: “We are very proud to hand over the keys to this state-of-the-art health centre. We hope both patients and staff will benefit from using these top class facilities for years to come.”
Trish Thompson, Derby City Primary Care Trust’s director of provider services and operations commented: “'This is a marvelous new building with state of the art facilities and an enhanced range of modern and integrated health services. We are delighted with the health centre and are confident that it will provide high quality services in a high quality environment.”
Catherine Baraniak, founding partner of Meadowfields Practice and senior nurse practitioner, said: “We are very much looking forward to moving into the new building. The excellent new facilities at the Coleman Health Centre will allow us to expand the services we offer and improve access for our patients.”
