Southern Derbyshire LIFT Company recently welcomed Edwina Currie, trustee of the Patients Association, to its new medical centre in Swadlincote.
Ms Currie returned to her former constituency for a private tour of the £4.7m Swadlincote Primary Care Centre, which is being given its final touches in readiness for opening its doors to local patients at the end of November.
The fact finding visit was a chance for Ms Currie to learn more about how the LIFT initiative is working locally in Southern Derbyshire. She also visited the company’s head office in Derby for a presentation by LIFTCo General Manager Steve Maleham.
Edwina Currie said: "My tour of Swadlincote Primary Care Centre really brings to life how local LIFT investment, both financially and in terms of expertise, into new health premises is making a real difference to patients' lives. By creating such a welcoming environment for patients here in the heart of 'Swad', using community health services becomes a more pleasant and less intimidating experience. I'm delighted that the health centre will benefit the people of Swadlincote for generations to come."
